• Adelaide Iron Symposium: From Primary to Tertiary Care

    The Adelaide Iron Symposium will be held on 3 June 2017 to build on participants' knowledge of transfusion practice and blood management. The symposium was developed through a partnership between the Women's and Children's Hospital and the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

    Learning outcomes: Participants will be provided with tools to assist them with

    • identifying patients with iron deficiency and anaemia and determining underlying pathology
    • interpreting laboratory investigations to diagnose iron deficiency and anaemia
    • applying the principles of prescribing and administering iron therapy in practice with a focus on patient blood management
    • incorporating the use of practical tools such as algorithms for anaemia and patient handouts to guide treatment for iron deficiency and anaemia
